Location
The rolling hills and native trees meandering down to the Northland coastline have some of the best beaches in the world. The Tutukaka coast is the 'jewel in the crown' When in NZ Queen Elizabeth II stays on this coast at Mimiwhangata.
From Kowharewa Bay over the hill to Matapouri and Whale Bay, which is as pristine and unchanged as when Capt. Cook sailed past all those years ago, is as good as it gets.
The beachfront Bach enjoys all day sun, is private, surrounded by mature native trees and the front lawn is at the waters edge and enjoys a spectacular view of the Bay and "Sugar Loafı in the Poor Knight Islands.
It is situated two and a half hours from Auckland (pop 1,000,000+) and half an hour from Whangarei (pop 45,000). The closest airport is located at Whangarei, flights operate between Auckland & Whangarei several times each day. Information on helicopter transportation can be found at Skywork Helicopters. If you prefer to drive, car hire can be arranged from either Auckland or Whangarei.
Known as the "winterless north", the climate is subtropical and generally 2-3 degrees warmer than Auckland. There are shops, fish and dive charters and restaurants at nearby Tutukaka within walking distance (1km).
